1. Objectifs du cours

- Define what a sustainable business is ?
- Explore ways through which businesses can become sustainable
- Understand what an entrepreneur can do at his level, and what changes in society are needed to go further
- Play the role of en entrepreneur and understand his/her constraints

The course is a combination of:
- 2 conferences
- A role game
- A final debrief

  • Part 1: Understanding the world we live in: defining sustainabiity and sustainable businesses
  • Welcome to the Anthropocene
  • A physicial analysis of sustainability: from the Meadows report to Planetay Boundaries and Doughnut economics
  • Downscaling issues
  • Coming back to the question: what is a sustainable business
  • Part 2: Looking for a way forward: the circular economy and territorial cooperation as solutions
  • The circular economy: what it is and some businesses are succesful and others not
  • Territorial ccoperation as a solution
  • New interdependancies: strenth or vulnerability
  • Part 3: Role game. You are the entrepreneur. Can you combine sustainability objectives with what customers can accept
  • Designing the product
  • Deciding on company activities
  • Assessing your impact
  • Setting a price
  • Part 4: Debrief on the role game and on the course

4. Compétences visées

  • After the course, the students are expected to:
  • have undertood what sustainability is, and more specifically absolute evaluation approaches to sustainability
  • have acquired critical thinking abilities to evaluate the sustainability of existing businesses, products and services
  • undestanding how to make sustainable design choices for company products, servives and operations
